Company Profile: Artsicle

At ER 35 Alexis Tryon, the co-founder and CEO of Artsicle, pitched her Web start-up that offers original artwork which you can rent before buying. She answered our questions on Artsicle:

What is the startup's product? How is it used?

Artsicle is a new site to sell art online with the option to try before you buy. We want to give new collectors the opportunity to live with original art from young, emerging artists for a low monthly rental fee. We think this makes the art buying experience less intimidating and opens the doors to create a new class of art collectors.

What problem are you solving?

Where would you go today to buy original art? Most would say a gallery, but for most a gallery is way out of their price range. At the same time, there are tons of talented, young artists out there with work at reasonable prices ($500-$2000) and no one to sell it to. We created Artsicle to connect these emerging artists with new potential collectors because we believe everyone can collect original art.

What is your business model?

Artsicle is a subscription model, with revenues from monthly rental fees. We also provide the option for customers to purchase, which we take a commission on.

What's your current status; ie. how many users? profitable? Previous funding? Looking for funding?

Artsicle launched publicly on March 1st - we're excited to have great early users and revenues. We're bootstrapped at this point and working out of Dogpatch Labs.
